Websites & Hosting

How much does a web site cost?
Here's the question everyone wants an answer to…from $500 to $50,000 and more! Don't like the answer? We don't blame you! We can tell you our rates, but that won't really answer your question any better. Think of it as if you were putting an addition on your house. Do you need 600 square feet or 2600? Do you want marble countertops and hardwood floors? Generally, the number of pages needed determines the cost. Some of our competitors start at $275 per page. We on the other hand, charge per project, which ends up being a lot less for you, and usually works out to be as low as $150 per page. For maintenance work, we generally charge hourly. Even so, we realize that still doesn't really answer your question. Click here for a free quote.

But wait! Now we offer personalized pre-designed web sites. You can get a professional web site up and running in days, for as little as $49.95 per month! Click here for details.

**Have a good look at the portfolio of the company you decide to go with & be sure you are getting a professional site (inside & out). We are all on a budget so watching our spending is as important as wasting it.

What do I need for a web site?
Whether you are providing information or selling a product, all Web sites need three things: first, you need a domain name (such as www.yoursite.com) which we can register for you; second, you need hosting (this is like renting space on the internet to store your files) and again we provide this service; third, you need the site files themselves (which are the actual web site files). We offer all of the above services together or separately.

Does it matter if I get a professional web designer to develop my site? Can I get my friend to do it?
Where do we start...a golden rule applies here, you get what you pay for. If you get a site for nothing it will most likely be worth the same, nothing. And no, it is not that easy. Does your friend know the latest Search Engine Optimization techniques? How to seed your site? What code is compatible with your server? Or how to change or update DNS information? All of these issues deal with your sites code...the part you can't see! But remember, it is the code behind the web site that matters when it comes to finding your site online! We haven't even got into the appearance of your site…image is important, it is the cover of the book or the packaging of the product. If your potential customers come across an amateur design, they may associate your business as being the same. Nut-Nae Art Websites & Graphics has professional web designers and graphic artists, to ensure your site is top of the line. There are countless imperative elements to designing a web site; if they are looked over your site is doomed. Remember the entire reasoning behind your web site, before making any drastic decisions.

What does your web designer need from me?
Our web site designers need to understand your service or business, so take the time to meet with us (in person or over the phone/email). We will ask you for as much digital content and photographs that you can provide. If you are starting from scratch, we can work with you to produce well written copy and everything else needed for the site. We can also provide a professional logo designer, photographer, or writer as needed. Above all else, plan ahead and do your best to determine the goals and objectives of your site. Our designers are experienced in helping you determine the focus and message of your site. Nut-Nae Art Websites & Graphics can fulfill all the requirements for your web site including graphic designers, multimedia producers, photographers, marketing and publicity experts and multi-media personal.
What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
Search engine optimization is the art of adjusting a web page through design and writing techniques that will make your web page rank well on the major search engines.
Search engine optimization starts with researching the search terms (or keywords) that describe your services and/or products in the exact form that visitors use to find your web site. When a web page is submitted, that search engine sends out a 'spider' to determine a mathematical value for the keywords appearing on your web page. The web page then exists in the search engine database to be displayed based upon the search term the visitor uses. In other words, search engine optimization makes your web page search engine friendly so when a web searcher uses the keywords that you've planned for your page, that page shows up on the search engine results list.
If everyone optimizes, what can I gain?
Everyone doesn't optimize! Only 40% of web designers actually use an optimization strategy of some sort. Out of that 40%, only 10% use correct optimization strategies. Choosing and implementing the correct keywords instantly jumps you ahead of 96% of the web pages on the Internet.
You will gain specific traffic to your web site. Imagine a used car lot with millions of cars parked on it. The cars with a greater chance of being sold are parked on the edge of the lot facing the road, not in the back of the lot. Your web site will be worthless without visitors.
Can the design of my web site affect my rankings?
Yes! There are some technologies utilized by web designers that provide flashy web site display or database driven content that can seriously hurt your opportunity to rank successfully.

Here are some design technologies to be aware of:
:: Flash
:: Frames
:: Dynamic Web sites (ASP, Cold Fusion, etc.)
:: Cold Fusion programming
:: Web sites with no inside pages
:: Heavy files that lengthen download time
:: Incorrect directory structures
:: Excessive JavaScript

Who owns a web site once it is built?
With Nut-Nae Art, you do. Some designers want to copyright their work for you, we do not. The only possible exception is when you use photographs or other content that might be copyrighted by someone else, but used with permission.

Can I start with a pre-designed website and then change to a custom site?
Yes & No. You can start with a pre-designed site, but they are contracted for a year. You can pay it out or wait until the year is up to go custom. You can base the new custom site on the old design, but an entirely new site will have to be created. Many aspects of your pre-designed site can not be moved around or manipulated. So, if you sign up for a pre-designed site plan on using it for at least one year.

Can you revamp my pre-designed website?
The structure or general layout of a pre-designed website can not change because it is sold as is. Once the structure is changed, it becomes a custom design. However; we can add pages, change the content within the pages, change any images and or colour.

How much hosting storage does my website get for $20 per month?
100 MB, if this exceeds 100 MB we will notify you & your hosting will go up to $25 per month.

How much will my site maintenance cost for the year?
All of our maintenance is billed out per minute at a rate of $50 per hour (.83 per minute). We do not charge a minimum fee, unlike most design firms ($40 or a 1/2 hour @ $80 per hour). We can not quote a monthly or yearly price on this service because we do not know how many minutes will be needed. We can however, give you an idea of how much time a specific update will take.

It has been suggested to us to link on to some other sites to increase visibility. How do you go about this?
We can add other links to your site, just send them to us -- but we don't think that's what you are asking -- we think you mean you'd like other sites to link to you? If so, you should ask your suppliers to list you (if they offer that) on their sites. You can search for them & see what you can find. There may be fees involved for these links. If you'd like to target Southern Saskatchewan and area, there are a couple sites you can advertise on. For example, the Estevan Motor Speedway brings thousands of visitors a year to Estevan, and their site gets about 150 visitors a day (in season). You can advertise on their site for as little as $200 a year, and that's a far cry from other advertising methods.

We can't get our website to come up under specific searches.
If you are our customer, your site has been registered very well, and should be working great. You may have unreachable expectations with regards to Search Engine Submission ( ie - finding your site with Google). If your site comes up on most specific searches on Google’s 1st page -- these are great results. Say a person is searching for a restaurant in Estevan. They are not going to do a search for "restaurant" -- but rather "Estevan restaurant". Considering the size of the internet, consumers must use geographical areas to search – unless location means absolutely nothing to that type of business.

top

What will help our website gain more traffic?
You need to let everyone know that you are online. Add your website address to your business cards, newspaper ads, put a decal on your car, add it to your email signature & voice mail..."We aren't in right now, please visit us online at www.yoursite.com..." and give it time.

I use my website history statistics offered by Nut-Nae Art and I am having difficulty determining if people from Alberta are looking. Where can I look in my statistics for this information?
When you click on each month within your stats area, it will give you details at the bottom of the stats area. It won't tell you someone from Alberta was on your site but rather someone with internet access from Telus (for example) was.

We are looking at installing a computer at work. Is there anything you need to do to get the site working on that computer?
No, you just need internet access. You do not need a computer to own a website; you only need a computer to view your website. You do need a computer to receive email.

I like my design proof, let's move onto creating the website. Can we make any changes as we go?
First be sure that you are happy with the colour, logo and menu items. We want to be sure all of these things are 100% what you want before moving forward to create the HTML (your actual website). Once we move to the HTML stage you can still make changes to content, text and images.

I'd like a quarterly newsletter and a spot where people can join our mailing list with their email address, to receive upcoming sales & specials.
This is a great idea, the best way to do this is to create your newsletter in Word. We will then convert your Word document into a non-editable format suitable for viewing and printing. There are two options for providing viewers the option to contact you, The first option is simply a link that opens the viewer’s e-mail editor. If you would like to see how this works, go to www.jlsbikeskate.com and click on the “Join our mailing list” link. This option can be included on your website for little or no cost. The second option has a more professional look and provides a full page of contact details that you can include. You can include this form on your website for a one time fee of $100-150. For an example of this options, go to www.nutnaeart.com/contact.html.

To change our "Specials" area, do I let you know or can I do it myself?
You can try doing the updates if you like. We can give you your ftp access information and you can use an FTP client & HTML editor like Front Page or Dreamweaver (these have to be *registered & non-educational programs). We do not offer support or training with these programs.
However, changing the specials area take us as little as 2-4 minutes ($2.50) -- so if it's only going to change every month or so, most people would want to save the hassle of doing it themselves. When you request the change we will have it completed within 2 business days, but many times we can do it that same day. If you are comfortable with editing HTML, go for it!! If not, again most people would want to save the hassle. It may take you 30 minutes or more to do the same change that will take us only a few minutes.

top

I think that we would need an update about 3 - 4 times weekly! I think that I can learn quickly! Does that mean I need to buy some software?
Yes. Microsoft Front Page may come with the Microsoft Office Suite. Nut-Nae Art does not use that program (this is why we do not offer education or support with the program), but it is commonly used by beginners & editors. We do not provide cost quoting for this product. Dreamweaver is a higher end tool and can cost approximately $500 USD. Again, because of copyright laws and guidelines, these have to be *registered & non-educational programs.

How much are tile ads on EstevanMotorSpeedway.com?
Tile ads are $200 for one spot per year, however until all the spots are full we will leave your ad repeated on the site. There will be a $50 set up fee to have your ad designed.

Can you explain the info@yoursite.com thing?
We will create your own domain specific email account, info@yoursite.com. This email address can be forwarded to your current email address, so that both are being collected into the same email program. The benefits to setting this up is that you are promoting and advertising your website www.yoursite.com through your email account and it looks more professional. You don’t have to do a thing, and you can still use & give out your old email account, however it would be better to start using & giving out this new email account.

top

Can you put a counter to show how many people visit our webpage or is that asking too much?
Actually, all of our websites have a very detailed stats system that tells you how many visitors you've had, how long they stayed, what pages they went to, etc. It even has a country code! We will email you a link to your stats area as soon as the site goes live. You will be able to log into it anytime, from anywhere.

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & should I do it?
Submitting your website in search engines may increase your online sales dramatically. If you invested time and money into your website, you simply MUST submit your website online otherwise it will be invisible virtually, which means efforts spent in vain. The only way for people to know about your website and boost your revenues is to make your site visible in places where people search for information. Here’s the good news…we do it all for you!!!

top

I was wondering about a "Customer Survey" on our website, would that be hard to do?
There are two ways to set it up. One, we can use the form you have (as long as it's a Word or Excel Document) & convert it to a non-editable document for people to print & fax or bring into the store -- this would only cost you out time (as little as 15 minutes). Second, we can create an actual online form, which is the better option because everything is automatically sent to your email account. Online forms are $100 to $150. A customer survey is quite simple so it would be $100. If you needed to collect private information such as credit card numbers, it would be $150 and we would set up a secure form.

Someone from the USA said they couldn't get the website to come up, yet I got it. Is this a bug? Is it possible that they just didn't type in the correct address?
If you can email them, email the URL. They either typed it in wrong or tried to "Search" for your actual domain name. Many people do this; they type the domain name into the search engine instead of the browser address bar. Rest assured your site is fine here & around the world -- the error is on the user end.

Can you make the text on my website a more fun font style? We are often asked to "jazz" up the overall font on a website. Some text on a website is a graphic, and some is actual text. For example many menu items such as, "Home, Products, etc." are graphics. And "Our company was founded in..." is text.
Text should only be set in certain fonts because if someone's computer doesn't have that font it will substitute it automatically, therefore if you choose an uncommon font your website will look different on most computers. Why can't you have ALL the text as a graphic?? Search engines scan your text looking for keywords to help place your site. We can dress up the site with "graphic" titles, and bit's here & there. Have a look at some of your favorite websites; you will see what we're talking about.

Ok, so how do we get started?

Send us...

1. Your organization name & contact information.
2. A logo OR the name of your printer or a business that would have your logo.
3. Choose one of the designs from www.nutnaeart.com/predesignedwebsites.html OR leave it to us – if you are going custom let us work our magic!!
4. Idea for a domain name (myballteam.com)
5. Lastly (for now) send us the page names you'd like.

Or call us & we'll help you with all of the above!

We will fax you an agreement (you can sign & fax back), then we will draw out what the site will look like & email a proof to you. You can critique it. Once you have approved the design, we will create the HTML (website). It will be in a private area that you can view online. Then we will add the content (text & images) that you supply.

Domain Name Tips

Dot what?
There are many different extensions available right now. If you are a business, we recommend a .com suffix. It is the first extension that most people try when searching for a site. If .com is not available, we will provide you with alternative extensions as well as a list of prefixes and suffixes added to your original choice.

Avoid Trademarked Names
There are two really good reasons for this. We have all heard the stories about the guy who thought ahead and bought "multi-million-dollar-company.com" and sold it to the company for enough money to retire on. But, remember that those companies have spent time and money creating their brand, and it would really be unfortunate if the tables were turned. The second reason to avoid trademarked names is that companies are no longer opening their pocketbooks to get their names back. They are calling their lawyers. Also, pending legislation will soon make it very difficult to register someone else’s trademarked name.

top

One may not be Enough
Sometimes, it isn’t a bad idea to register several similar domain names. If you have "yourname.com", register "yourname.net" so no one else takes it. You can register your full company name and a shorter, easier to remember version. Some people even register common misspellings of their company name.

Character types
Just a reminder. Domain names can only use letters, numbers, and hyphens ("-"). Spaces and other symbols are not allowed, and they cannot begin or end with a hyphen. Domain names are not case sensitive and cannot exceed 63 total characters.

Can I register my own domain name?
You can, but why would you??

- Domains at Go Daddy are $9 per year
- Domains from Nut-Nae Art are $30 per year
- Domains from Direct West are $275 per year (high admin fees!)

The reason why people purchase their domains from us & not from other online sources is because we administer them FOR FREE. We register them, set up the DNS & point it to its proper server. We also throw in FREE email (worth $5 per email per month).

So, for the $10 to $15 that we make on the domain name, we save customers A LOT of time, not to mention the headache that some of these online businesses cause with little or no customer service.

**Also, We actually give domain names away FREE with ALL sites. We only bill for them on custom sites, the second year OR for additional domains. For example, if someone wants three domains and only one site, we bill for the additional two.

About Us, Nut-Nae Art

Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, money orders, bank cheques and personal cheques.

Will you place advertisements on my site?

Absolutely not. We will not place banner ads, pop-up ads, etc. on your web site However, if permitted we will place a small image at the very bottom of your web site that illustrates we designed your web site.

Will a web site help my type of business / organization?
Just having your name alone on some computer screens here and there won't do you or your organization very much good. You need a reason, a plan to harness the power of the web.

Your business' web site can provide easy access for customers who do business with you to find more information about your products. It can offer purchasing advice. It can also highlight upcoming sales and events your business might have. If you sell rare items, a web site can help alert potential buyers around the world about your current inventory. If you run a restaurant, a web site featuring a menu and a phone number can help boost delivery sales. A simple menu online can entice people into your restaurant. Photos of the interior of your business and small bits of information about employees can also help make your business more familiar to customers, making them feel more relaxed and comfortable while shopping, eating, or otherwise doing business with you.

If you are an artist, musician, or arts organization, for example, a web site can be a resource that allows people who have seen your work at a restaurant, coffeehouse, or gallery to learn more about you. Artists often produce a much wider range of work than can be exhibited in one place. If you have a web site, a person who enjoys the work they see at one venue can easily learn about the full breadth of your work. A simple calendar of upcoming events can entice your new fans to other events. The web often causes random encounters: someone looking for local artist web sites comes across yours and decides to come out to your next event or even to purchase a work. For all of these reasons, a web site can be very beneficial to an artist's career.

Each web site has a different set of goals tailored specifically to the organization the web site represents. As a web designer for your organization, Nut-Nae Art Websites & Graphics can make sure your web site matches your needs exactly, using the full potential of the web to help your business.

Are the prices at Nut-Nae Art competitive?
